Name:   Jersey Franklin (now Jordy)

Description:   ~ 6 yrs ~ 25 lbs ~ Fostered in Bowie, MD ~

Jersey is a spunky little guy at only 5 or 6 years young. He is always super willing to please his human, especially if it means belly rubs and cuddles. Jersey does well with other dogs around his size, younger kids may be an intimidating subject. He enjoys a back yard to run and sniff, and even sun bathe the day away. Once this little guy gets started on a walk, he can’t contain his excitement. He is one of the easiest going guys we know. He is kennel trained, but doesn’t seem to need it, and seems to have pretty good house manners. After given some time to adjust, he has been nothing but happy and full of spirit. New things are still a little scary, but once he sees it enough, he is a champ.

Success Story:   Hey, folks! It's been a minute, so I thought it was high time to do some updating.

First of all, after a lot of careful thought, I've decided to change his name to "Jordy." "Jersey" lends itself to too many bad puns. I think "Jordy" suits him better. And he immediately started responding to it, which is good. He is also now an official (dog-)licensed resident of Prince George's County.

He is coming along well. He's still skittish about loud or even just unexpected noises, but he's becoming more sure of himself. Also, he lets me know when he wants to go out. So, yay!!

I have to admit, I was kind of wondering if this was really a beagle or possibly just a surgically modified poodle, since he seemed to be extremely not food-motivated. Couldn't really be bothered figuring out how to get food out of a Kong Toy. However, now he goes for the Kong Toy with gusto, and has also figured out that, when he pushes the Kong Toy off the towel it's on (to protect the carpet), he needs to pick it up and put it back on the towel. I don't know how he learned this except by watching me move the Kong Toy back onto the towel when he pushed it off and perhaps noticing that Sesame understands the command "tablecloth," which means "you've just pushed your Kong Toy off the towel and onto the carpet; put it back."

He continues to spend time on the dog bed under the desk when I'm in my home office, and he's discovered two of the dog beds in the living room. (See attached pic for one of them. Unfortunately, he's kind of camera shy, so I don't get good pics very often.)

Vet's staff gave him all kinds of love. He seems in good health, except for some arthritis in his right rear knee (which led the vet to think he's closer to 6 than 3, so I have adjusted his age accordingly in the vet and county records). I'll be starting him on laser treatment if the vet so recommends. Does wonders for Sesame. He also has hookworms, but he's now had his second dose of Drontal and we'll check again at the end of next week to see if the worms are gone. (No danger to Sesame, since she's on HeartGuard, which protects against hookworms.)

So there's the update!

I hope y'all are doing well and staying cool despite this hot weather.

Best,
