Name:   Hazel Martin

Description:   ~ 22 lb ~ 4 yrs old ~ fostered in Gaithersburg, MD ~

This girl is not an "instant" pet. She is very sweet, but fearful of people. She is comforted by the presence of other dogs, but is not playful with them, at this point. She has only recently arrived. She is also heartworm positive and will need to go through treatment before she can be adopted. The heartworm treatment will take at least a couple of months. We'll be working on her anxiety during that process, but she will not be a bouncing outgoing beagle for quite some time.

Success Story:   A note from Hazel's new family:

Her transition was a little rocky for a couple days while we all got used to each other (accidents in the house mostly), but she and Penny get along so well - I caught them snuggling on day 2. After the first couple days, we all got used to each other. She learns very quickly - she's walking really well on the leash now and can sit and stay. She likes to either sleep in her crate, or with me in bed (big snuggler). Working from home has really helped - she spends most of the day resting in the dogbed or in her crate (she self-crates) - and Penny and I like to go lots of places, so she's gotten a ton of experiences! She comes to me no problem at the dogpark as well, which surprised me. I thought I was going to have to chase her around! She even went on a 6 hour roadtrip with us - she loves the car.
