Name:   Serrano Pepper (now Luna)

Description:   ~ Baby Girl ~ short-haired Beagle Mix ~ born 11/02/16 - fostered in Cockeysville, MD ~

Their mom, Pepper Northhampton, was a very pregnant stray beagle in North Carolina. The little family-to-be was rescued from a tiny local pound just before Pepper gave birth to eight big puppies. Her foster mom had a DNA test done. Pepper, a purebred beagle, apparently had a fling with handsome boy of questionable lineage. The DNA test predicts that the pups to grow to be 21 to 37 lbs. These active, friendly little pups will be spayed or neutered and ready to go to their forever homes in early February.

It's hard to look past the cuteness of any puppy, but rest assured that adopting a youngster is not for the faint of heart. Before she reaches her first birthday she will eat your sofa, pee on your Persian rug (multiple times), and turn your yard into a lunar landscape.

It's hard not to be sucked in by the cute factor, but please give careful consideration to whether you are up to the challenge a puppy will impose on your home for the next year or more. They require as much diligence as a human baby to keep them out of harm's way - as well as keeping your belongings out of harm's way. Puppies need to be taken outside frequently, day and night. Puppies require loving patience (never physical discipline) as they learn what is acceptable behavior and what is not. She will not always be young, healthy and cute. She will one day be gray around her eyes, may limp with arthritis and need long term medications. She needs a home that will be committed to her for her ENTIRE life - which will likely be 14-15 years or more.

In addition to our Standards for Adoption (click here), the successful puppy applicant will have owned a pet as an adult and have an established vet record. Preference will be given to those who have owned and raised a puppy before, as an adult. Puppies require supervision and cannot be left alone for many hours. We discourage the placement of dogs under two years in age in apartments and condos due to the noise and activity level of young dogs. Your neighbors will thank us.

Success Story:   Luna is the spunkiest dog we've ever owned. She's so fearless and is always getting into trouble but she knows exactly when to turn on the charm. She's our son's favorite thing in the world and she is forever keeping us on our toes because she is always stealing his stuff. She is also constantly picking on our other dog Finnegan, but he loves her ever so.
