Name:   Hailey Hughes (now Daisy)

Description:   NOW ADOPTED~ 6 yrs old ~ 24 lbs ~ Fostered in Catonsville, MD ~

Hailey is a sweet, beautiful and timid little girl and she would prefer a household with no men or rambunctious children in it. She lives with me, my husband and 4 other dogs right now. We call her "Hot Foot Hailey" because everytime she sees my husband, she goes hot-footing it away to her little santuary. But when he's not around, she comes out and spends time in the rest of the house, just like a normal dog.

She's had multiple litters of puppies in her life and the skin on her belly is permanently stretched. She tore her ACL in her knee, but it seems to be healing up quite well. Our vet said that because she's small and lightweight, surgery wouldn't be necessary. It's evident just how well she's doing when we go for a walk. She's deliriously happy and leaps along the first block or two.

From day one, Hailey preferred to go potty outside. But if no one is around and she has to go, she'll go on a pee pad. We have her on a pretty good schedule, and she sleeps through the night without incident, but we're also home much of the time. She's a hearty eater and likes to sample all the other dogs' food, so I feed her in our spare room with the door closed. It works out well.

Hailey isn't an instant dog. Because of her shyness, it's going to take time for her to trust you. She's been here over 4 months and still runs and hides when I drop a piece of paper or my shoe squeaks on the floor. But somehow, the love of a shy dog seems deeper than most, because it's mixed with gratitude, trust and a little desperation.

Success Story:   She is doing great! She loves her walks in the woods - she goes crazy sniffing and wagging her tail. I got a waist leash. Straps around my waist and then attaches with a clip to her harness - I still hold it but that way there's no chance of her getting loose. She follows her new beagle brother, Bingo, around and is getting more used to the boys. She is an incredibly sweet dog.
