Name:   Boudreaux

Description:   On the morning of Wednesday, April 10th, Boudreaux was hit by a pick-up truck. His right rear femur was dislocated, his hip was slightly fractured and he had some cuts and scrapes. He had no collar and was not chipped. Boudreaux has been with his foster dad (and good Sam) since his emergency visit to the vet. His dislocation was reset under anesthesia, his cuts were stitched and his right rear leg was set in a sling and immobilized.

His first day was spent mostly waking up from the anesthesia and the shock of being hit by an automobile and left to die.

By the next day, Boudreaux’s personality started to emerge. He is extremely affectionate and quiet. For the first two days, he had to be carried outside to do his business while being held up. By the third day, Boudreaux had mastered walking on 3 legs, although he still needed a little help. Boudreaux’s progress since then has been nothing short of amazing. He can stand, walk and even semi-run on just 3 legs. His personality has really started to blossom. He recently discovered the giant basket of dog toys that his canine foster sister, Lucy, keeps in the den. He proceeded to pull out every one that he could reach. Lucy is an 11 year old Rottweiler/Lab Mix and very sweet and patient . She has her own hip problems with severe arthritis. Lucy has "cousins" that come and visit and sometimes spend the night. To her relief, they always go home. But this Boudreaux fellow doesn’t seem to be leaving, and this concerns her.

Boudreaux is quiet and extremely affectionate, although not big on giving out kisses. Foster Daddy loves to hold his head and look into those eyes that are full of love. Boudreaux loves to eat. He is a Beagle after all! And he loves to just lay back and relax on his bed on the floor next to his human . It’s been over a week since Boudreaux’s arrival here and we've not yet heard his voice. While he may not bark, he still loves to put that keen nose to the ground and follow the trails that the squirrels leave behind.

His stitches and splint should come off soon. We'll update then.

Success Story:   Boudreaux has firmly cemented his place as part of our family. He and Lucy became pals, although she could not run and play like Boudreaux wanted to. He has had visits from our granddogs and he always has a great time with them because they can and do run and play.

Boudreaux’s progress physically has been fantastic. He had some water therapy in my brother’s pool, but he wasn’t very fond of it. He may have webbed feet, but he’s no swimmer. I would hold him up and walk around the pool with him, while he paddled his short legs. If I ever let go, he would swim right to my brother David and rest his head on David’s shoulder.

He has progressed extremely well from his FHO surgery. He is able to run and run fast. He does have a hitch in his get along, but that’s normal after FHO surgery. His hair has grown back completely. He is my little shadow. He knows his name and has definitely learned the meaning of the word NO!! Mr. Curious still has to stick his nose in everything from the trash bin to the dishwasher when the door is open. He thinks everything small in the house is a toy and every toy in the house is his toy. He knows where his beds are, but his favorite spot is still lying at my feet usually with his head on my foot.
