~ 6 yrs old ~ 31 lbs ~ Fostered in Glen Burnie, MD ~
Dundee is as sweet-natured as he is adorable. He behaves like a much younger pup with
endless zoomies and epic games of tug-of-war with his mastiff foster brother. Dundee is soft
and cuddly and enjoys posting up to his humans. He always wants to be next to us when he’s
not working at excavating the back yard or pilfering foster mom’s shoes. He is a very darling
doggie with zero resource guarding issues and he tolerates all handling. My nine-year old niece
visited and dressed him up in her hoodie and he uncomplainingly allowed her gentle
ministrations.
Although he has a healthy dose of beagle mischief, he readily gives up contraband in favor of
acceptable toys. Like his foster sister, Princess Helga, he loves to shred paper products –
especially Amazon boxes. Of course, he goes mad for food and treats and will counter surf
opportunistically, so we have to keep edibles out of reach and provide gentle correction when
he gets too beagle-y. Dundee is a small beagle, though, and can’t reach the counters, but we
don’t encourage the behavior. He will express interest in our food, but once he realizes that we
are not sharing from the plate or table, he will find a nice spot to snooze and leave us alone to
eat. I know, I haven’t encountered a hound that would leave me alone if I had food on me, so
Dundee is a special kind of beagle.
Dundee is house and crate trained and knows how to use a doggie door. He will go outside to
potty in the rain, but pancakes when he’s toweled dry. He is very good on neighborhood walks
and only pulls on his leash when he discovers a scent – like any typical beagle. Since we have
only had him for a few weeks, he is not allowed the run of the house unsupervised – especially
since he does like to entertain himself by creating chew toys and dragging boxes and beds out
to the yard. When we crate him, he will only make a small fuss initially, but quickly settles down
with his kong or a toy. He sleeps through the night in his crate and is very patient until we let
him out.
Even though he sleeps through thunderstorms, he is terrified of the vacuum cleaner and will
scamper about in a panic when it makes an appearance. Dundee doesn’t usually bark or bay
unless he catches some scent in the yard, or the other dogs start something with the neighbors’
pets who dare to walk in the alley. When he does bay, it is a very loud and lovely bell that works
better than any clock alarm, so no apartment or condo living for this little guy.
Dundee is doing well adjusting to life in our home – he’s learned to sit and is now working on
other basic commands. He sometimes gets excited and will jump on us, but responds well when
we tell him “no” and “down.” Some of his endearing quirks include stealing the big dogs’ beds,
crawling under the larger dogs to steal their toys, and grunting when he’s petted.
Dundee is a dream family pet – he’s easygoing, playful, loving, trainable, gets along great with
other dogs, and is a total snuggle bug. Prepare to be charmed out of your socks when you meet
this beautiful beagle boy!
