Name:   Axel Beaufort
Description:   ~ 31 lb beagle mix ~ 3 yrs old ~ fostered in Baltimore, MD ~

Very sweet, loves people & wants to say hi to other dogs. Sometimes he whines when they go by him without giving attention. I think he would be great for a family or at least another dog companion. He is just fine in the house away from me—- like right now he is napping in another room near my resident beagle. He seems to want his fill of company and attention at some point during the day, but not need it constantly. He whines only a bit when I leave the house but it’s not bad. Does well in his crate.

Not food motivated yet. He actually has no interest in plain kibble unless there’s something better smelling in with it, even then he sometimes leaves some behind.

Lots of napping but has been getting more energy recently. Curious boy so with his long-legs he can sniff along the counter tops. Made it into the enclosed trash bin somehow yesterday to play with a plastic container while I was in a meeting.

Loves toys! He likes to pick out the toys one at a time from the toy box to bring into bed with him. It’s cute.

He’s a jumper— wants to jump up on everyone, but gently then stares in your eyes like he is trying to tell you something.

Still very itchy. Doesn’t enjoy those medicated baths but doesn’t struggle away too much. As long as I keep petting him and keep an eye on those long legs creeping up on the side of the tub, he stays put.

So far, he’s been a great walker. No pee accidents and when he has pooped in the house it’s been on a potty pad. He only pees 2/3 long times a day even though we go out much more than that. Then again he also doesn’t drink much water. I put low sodium broth and a little water in with his food to encourage him to eat it plus make sure he’s hydrated.

He is smart and a big time sniffer at the park. He goes around the opposite side of a tree instead of chasing behind them & knows they go up the tree so he will jump off the ground once they climb up. Smartest squirrel chasing I’ve ever seen! It’s entertaining.
